Area 4 was once again invited to put on their display of models at the Annual H.M.S Collingwood Open Day and Inter Service Field Gun Competition Day.

After problems with the weather effecting our outdoor display last year and at our request we were located indoors in the Marlbourough building.

On arrival we were met by Chief Petty Officer Jones and a detail of Ratings who had been allocated to help transport our equipment and models to our display location.

We set up on the provided tables plus our some of our own as the display was larger than I had anticipated. We had recently received our allocation of new SWA table covers and these were used for the first time, which made a big visual difference to our presentation by having all matching covers for the entire display.

We had some 28 models of warships ranging from WW1 to the Present Day, we also had a display of five Naval Aircraft at 1/48 scale which is a new addition to our display inventory.

We had many visitors to the stand during the day and received lots of compliments on the size and quality of models. During the day we were visited by the Mayor of Fareham and also the Mayor of Portsmouth with their consorts .

We had lots of conversations with serving and past members of the Royal Navy which always adds that extra interest for us often getting tips and hints from those who had served on some of the actual ships we had models of on display.

We received a thank you from the organisers and the offer of attending again next year.

SWA Members taking part were Charles Davis, John Hawley, Dave Reith, Ken Winter, Geoff Young and Myself.
