The third South Coast Ship Show organised by Mainline and Maritime Publishers and sponsored by HPC Publishing was once again held in the Holiday Inn Portsmouth on Saturday 14th November.
This event is not strictly a model boat show and also had exhibitors, bookstalls, traders, film shows and lectures on items of general interest in many aspects of ships and the sea.
This year Dave Reith, and Myself accompanied by Dave’s Wife Andrea were once again invited to display our models at the show together which also had displays by The Eastleigh MBC, Hayling Island MBC and Portsmouth MBC.
It is not possible to put on a large SWA display and last year we were limited to a couple of tables however due to the organisers appreciation of our participation last year this time we were given some extra space and allocated a small room to ourselves with space for five tables , which gave us room to display 10 models which consisted of Dave Reith’s 1/48 HMS Clyde which had its own display table, the other models were HMS Lancaster (type23), HMS Lincoln (type 61), HMS Exeter (type42), HMS Kirkliston (Ton Class) HMS Penzance (Sandown Class), HMS Lindisfarne (Island Class), HMS Illustrious (Invincible Class) USS Hornet CV8 (Yorktown Class) and USS McNair (Fletcher Class) .
The stand had a constant stream of visitors throughout the day and we had many compliments on the standard and layout of the display and on the high standard of models on show.
We hope to be invited to the event again next year although the venue and date are yet to be decided .
